BERLIN VITAL 2003 (Marathon Fair) opened its doors at 2 p.m.

At the fairgrounds under the Funkturm Radio Tower, the newly conceived BERLIN VITAL (Marathon & sport and health fair) was opened today at 2 p.m.. In the three halls, 21 – 23, on Masurenallee (across from the RBB television station), over 120 exhibitors from the areas of endurance sport and lifestyle await over 120,000 visitors with health checkpoints, special theme parks for the areas of running, inline skating, walking, Nordic Walking, nutrition, and NEWS 2004, with a broad programme of information and entertainment. Entrance is free—all runners and skaters must pick up their race numbers here by Saturday, September 27, and they can purchase numerous products from the special adidas souvenir programme for the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON.

Klaus-Dieter Knapp – an amazing role model, full of courage

One man will be at the start on Sunday who really (according to the doctors) should have been wheelchair bound since 19990. Klaus-Dieter Knapp (1956) has a progressive incomplete paralysis (his spinal chord is severed by a tumour). He has limited mobility and will walk his MARATHON in a kind of limping stride. This race helps slow down the progression of his illness. “It is good for me,“ says Klaus Dieter Knapp, who has participated in the BERLIN MARATHON 18 times—16 times making it to the finish, dropping out only 2 times. Sunday will be his 19th time. He has the Jubilee Club race number “605“. He will be permitted to start at 8:30, so that he will be able to finish the course in time. He has been under the medical supervision of Dr. Willi Heepe for years.

Vice President of the German Bundestag will run in the MARATHON

The Vice President of the German Bundestag, Dr. Norbert Lammert, will be running in the 30th real,- BERLIN MARATHON on Sunday.

TV Film about the MARATHON 2002 on Saturday in RBB

A film about the 29th real,- BERLIN MARATHON 2002 will be shown on RBB on Saturday, September 27, 2003 from 7-7:30 p.m. called “Running, running, nothing but running?“. The film by Christian Modehn is a rerun of the film that was a success in 2002.

“Newspapers in the Schools“ will be reporting on the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON 2003

The 10th grade of the Paul-Schneider High School (under the direction of the teacher Reinhard Unger) in Meisenheim will be reporting for the Frankfurter Rundschau about the marathon as part of the project “Newspapers in the Schools“. They will be designing an entire page for Wednesdays paper. The entire class is in Berlin from September 25-29. They will be researching the all aspects of the MARATHON and especially the topic: “Can participants take shortcuts?“!
