Jelly Donuts or Rolled Pickled Herring?

The choice at the 28th Berlin Pilsner New Year

At the 28th Berlin Pilsner New Years Eve Run on Wednesday, December 31, 2002, SCC RUNNING is expecting Berlins running community to again join in the traditional end-of-the-year fun run.

There will be 4 different courses, ranging from a 2 km, 4 km, 6.6 km, to a ca. 10.3 km race over the Teufelsberg Mountain.

At the finish every participant will receive a jelly donut (and if they are unlucky, one filled with mustard!) and a certificate. The victors will receive a giant jelly donut…and the last ones across the finish line get rolled pickled herring! There will be traditional mulled wine to warm up with afterwards.

At 11:30, shortly before the races start, there will be a parade of the costumed runners and awards for the best ones.

Starting times:
12:00 noon = 2.0 km / 12:15 a.m. = 4.0 km
12:30 a.m. = 6.6 km / 1:00 p.m. = 10.3 km

So far, 1,450 registrations have been received (last year there were a total of 1.908 participants). And there will be traditional mulled wine to warm up with afterwards. Registration is possible on December 31, 2003 starting at 11 a.m. in the gymnasium of the Mommsen Stadium in Waldschulallee 34, 14055 Berlin.

33rd Berlin New Years Day Run—Charity Run for UNICEF On Thursday, January 1, 2004, at 12 noon, SCC RUNNING invites Berlin runners to a 4 km FUN RUN down the boulevard “Unter den Linden“ starting at the Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg Gate.

No registration necessary—just come and join in and put a donation for UNICEF in the piggy bank.

This run is not competitive, everyone runs at the same pace, and there are no times kept. Everyone will receive a certificate. Please bring your musical instruments and come in costume. Instead of an organisational fee, SCC-RUNNING is asking for a donation for UNICEF, for the United Nations Childrens Fund. This race has taken place every year since 1972. The first one was organised by Heinz-Florian Oertel in Friedrichshain. On January 1, 1990, this was the first race to go through the newly opened Brandenburg Gate from West to East—and back. The district mayor of Berlin-Mitte, Joachim Zeller, will give the starting signal this year.
