MARATHON and Bambini Run 2004 – Record participation
Record participation of 452 children in the Bambini Run

They are now a well-established tradition at the real,- BERLIN MARATHON: the races for the children and youth. The organiser is of course also interested in supporting the development of running and anchoring developing athletics at a young age-pedagogical work that can only be successful in collaboration with the schools and enthusiastic sporting parents.
The MINI MARATHON (4.2195 km) for school-aged youth, which has been growing
since its debut in 1989, and the 6 year old Bambini Run for children 10 and
younger (always on the day before the race) over ca. 800 m, are now an integral
and set part of the supporting programme of the real,- BERLIN MARATHON. They
are part of the "motivation machine" for the further development of
running and athletics in the future.
This year there were a record number of children in the Bambini Run (452 children, last year 383), which took place under the gorgeous sun in the Summer Garden at the Funkturm.
Franz Feddema, who heads the event, once again had a great team helping him to keep the excited children (and parents) under control before sending them off in four groups on their laps (the oldest children ran 2 laps).
The announcer sent off the excited kids, Horst Milde did not cause any false
starts with his starting gun, and everything went smoothly. The sponsor,
real,-, was very generous. Every child received a hat before the race and a
medal and certificate in the finish. Then there was an extra bag of Criss-Cross
snack from Pombär, the bear mascot - also supplied by von
real,-.
Everyone was happy (especially the proud parents and grandparents), some of whom accompanied their little ones on the lap around the Summer Garden.
