Takahashi trains with new coach: real,- BERLIN-MARATHON a possibility

2005-06-20

“My plan is to train in Boulder for a fall marathon,” said Naoko Takahashi, the 2000 Olympic Marathon champion, at the press conference to announce her new sponsor, Phiten, a company which manufactures various health related products.  The four year contract is reported to be worth over 600 million yen, which is equivalent to 5.5 million dollars or 4.6 million Euros. In 2001 she had been the first woman to break the 2:20 marathon barrier in the real,- BERLIN MARATHON. Naoko Takahashi clocked 2:19:46.

After splitting from her long time coach Yoshio Koide, because Koide could no longer spend 100 % of his time with her (Koide is now coaching nearly two dozen runners), Takahashi formed her own support team. Naoko Takahashi will now train in Boulder (Colorado) for her marathon comeback. She said: "If training goes well I want to run the real,- Berlin Marathon."
