Chepkemei heads star-studded field in New York

Susan Chepkemei a brilliant runner-up to Paula Radcliffe in last year's ING New York City Marathon faces a tough task to succeed the Briton as champion on Sunday. Radcliffe the exception, the race has attracted many of the world's leading women not surprisingly with a winner's prize of US130,000 dollars on offer. Challenging the 30-year-old Kenyan who lost out on victory in the last 400 metres a year ago will be Lornah Kiplagat, Jelena Prokopcuka ,Nuta Olaru, Lyudmila Petrova and Derartu Tulu.

Kiplagat of the Netherlands who gave up Kenyan citizenship two years ago after marrying coach Pieter Langerhorst is being tipped for victory and has the credentials to succeed. After finishing third third two years ago she blew up last November when Radcliffe and Chepkemei took control of the race after 21 miles and slipped back to seventh.
