With Luminita Zaituc, the first elite athlete has committed to participate in the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON on April 2. The 37-year-old runner from the sport club LG Braunschweig, who won a silver medal for Germany in the marathon at the European Championships in 2002, won in Berlin last year with a time of 71:04.

The event organiser SCC-RUNNING expected over 18,000 participants at the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON, including not only runners but also inline skaters and walkers, as well as athletes who will be participating in the 3.5 km Vattenfall FUN RUN and in the Vattenfall Berliner Nordic City Walk.

The best German road racer at the event

“We are delighted that last year’s champion will be participating again this year. With
Luminita Zaituc, we will have the best German road racer at the event,” said race director Mark Milde. Last year, Luminita Zaituc also participated in the real,- BERLIN MARATHON. She reached the finish in 2:27:34 for second place — the best ranking for a German woman in this race since Uta Pippig won in 1995.

“I am looking forward to participating in Berlin again, and hope to have a good race again like I did last year. If everything falls together well, a best time could be possible,” stated Luminita Zaituc, who has a personal best of 69:35. She will have race number F1 for the event.
